The VW Tiguan is Volkswagen’s answer to the growing demand of cross-over SUVs. The unit featured here is the fuel-economical variant that was introduced to Malaysian market back in May 2014. The chunky styling of the Tiguan, both the exterior and the interior may remind you of the Golf, that’s because it is based on it. Powered by the same twin-charged 1.4 litre TSI engine, the Tiguan delivers about 158 horses at 5 800 rpm and 240 Nm of torque between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm to the front wheels only.
Inside, the cabin is airy and spacious, and has the top-notch quality you expect from a Volkswagen. It packs a similar feel and design found across the VW models. Equipment is plenty too, ranging from touch screen multimedia system to Alcantara upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, electric parking brake (no need to disengage on moving off), automatic headlight activation and roof rails. The cabin is roomy and comfortable, fitting perfectly for medium sized families.
Many reviewed the ride to be good, thanks to the soft-ish suspension settings that are capable of easily absorbing potholes and speed bumps while keeping body roll under control. The Tiguan handles quite tidily and is a fairly predictable drive. The wind and tyre noise are also impressively muted. All of this makes the Tiguan a wonderful car when it comes to comfortable long distance driving.
However, the size of the machine to its heart does make the Tiguan underpowered and slightly slow when it comes to responsiveness. But the Tiguan makes up for this by being a fully equipped car for family use. The unit featured here is manufactured in 2014 but was only registered last year June. The warranty is valid until June 2019. It is well maintained, by Volkswagen Group Malaysia is in a top notch condition. It is a test drive unit after all.
